Speech by the Director General of the Telecommunications and Post Regulatory Authority (TPRA) on the Occasion of World Post Day 2026
10 Oct 2026
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful,
It brings me great pleasure to address you today on the occasion of World Post Day 2026. This occasion allows us to recall the historical and continuously evolving role of the postal sector while simultaneously looking ahead to its future amidst the accelerating digital and economic transformations sweeping the globe.
Throughout its long history, the post has been far more than a mere mechanism for delivering letters and parcels. It was and remains a vital pillar of the economic and social fabric of societies, a bridge connecting individuals to their interests, institutions to their clients, and markets to opportunities, thereby fostering communication and driving economic and service activities.
Our celebration this year comes at a stage where the postal sector is undergoing a major paradigm shift in both its concept and scope of services, driven by rapid technological advancements, evolving lifestyles and working patterns, and the swift expansion of e-commerce and the digital economy.
Modern postal services are no longer standalone, traditional operations; they have become an integral part of an end-to-end logistics and digital ecosystem. Within this ecosystem, the movement of documents and parcels intersects seamlessly with e-commerce, financial services, data management, digital service platforms, and smart delivery solutions.
From this standpoint, our mandate at the Telecommunications and Post Regulatory Authority (TPRA) extends beyond merely regulating the postal market. We are committed to contributing to the development of a resilient sector capable of evolving and meeting future demands. We aim to achieve this by establishing an agile and effective regulatory environment that encourages investment, fosters innovation, promotes fair competition, safeguards consumer rights, and enhances the quality, efficiency, and reach of services.
In this context, the Authority is actively upgrading and strengthening the regulatory and supervisory frameworks governing the postal sector, enhancing oversight and compliance mechanisms, fostering fair competition among service providers, and encouraging operators to adopt cutting-edge technologies and modern operational models, ultimately leading to a more efficient, transparent, and sustainable postal market.
Furthermore, we firmly believe that the future of the postal sector cannot be built on regulations and legislation alone. It relies heavily on strategic partnerships and integration between the Authority, operators, the private sector, government institutions, financial entities, academia, and the tech sector. Through this collaborative approach, innovation, service enhancement, and user experience optimization become fundamental pillars in the sector’s development journey.
Raising awareness about modern postal services is equally essential. It is vital to emphasize the opportunities and solutions this sector offers to both the public and enterprises, encouraging the leverage of postal and logistics services to support e-commerce and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), thereby connecting producers, markets, and consumers both within Sudan and internationally.
We at the Telecommunications and Post Regulatory Authority aspire for the Sudanese postal sector to be a key partner in the country’s digital transformation roadmap, moving from reacting to changes to actively shaping them. In this vision, technology serves as a primary driver to enhance services, optimize operational expenses, accelerate delivery, and broaden accessibility.
We also view the modernization of the postal sector as a tangible opportunity to support the national economy during its recovery and reconstruction phase. This can be achieved by boosting e-commerce, advancing logistics services, creating new investment and employment opportunities, and connecting all regions of Sudan through modern, reliable postal service networks.
The upcoming phase requires us all to rethink the traditional perception of postal services and work toward building a modern, digital, integrated, and secure postal sector capable of keeping pace with global developments while meeting the needs of Sudanese citizens and the national economy.
On this occasion, I extend my warm greetings and appreciation to all postal workers, operators, service providers, and all partner institutions contributing to the continuity and development of this vital sector.
I reaffirm the commitment of the Telecommunications and Post Regulatory Authority to fulfilling its role in regulation, development, consumer protection, and the support of innovation and investment. Working in partnership with all stakeholders, we strive to build a modern, competitive, trusted, innovative, and sustainable Sudanese postal sector.
May the postal sector continue to advance and excel in serving our citizens and national economy year after year.
Peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah be upon you.
